Summer holiday
Schöne Aussicht: the ideal base for an unforgettable summer holiday
Chalet Schöne Aussicht offers a phenomenal view of the underlying valley and the Hohe Tauern National Park. But as soon as you get out of the holiday home, you can go for a relaxing walk or mountain bike on one of the routes that literally walk in front of your door. It is therefore not surprising that Schöne Aussicht is the ideal base for an unforgettable summer holiday for young and old. But also, in the spring and autumn you can of course enjoy the area. Below there are a number of activities and sights described, where several useful links have been added to the text.
Hohe Tauern
The Hohe Tauern covers an area of almost 1,900 km2, making it one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. The area is approximately 120 long (east to west) and 50 km wide (north to south). It covers parts of the provinces of Salzburgerland, Carinthia and Tyrol. In addition, a small stretch runs through to the Italian province of South Tyrol.
The park has many highlights such as the highest mountain in Austria (Grossglockner, 3789 m), the longest glacier in the eastern Alps (Pasterzen glacier) and the highest waterfalls in Europe (Krimmler waterfalls). This area has 266 peaks of 3,000 and higher, 342 glaciers, almost 300 streams, 25 large waterfalls and more than 500 mountain lakes. In the Hohe Taueren, more than 10,000 animal species have been identified and you will encounter more than 30% of all plants that occur in Austria. Consequently, this is a beautiful area where you can experience nature in many facets and really relax.
In Mittersill is a large visitor center where you can obtain all the necessary information about this beautiful nature area. In this location there is also a child-friendly, interactive exhibition with 360-degree panorama. It is situated on the provincial road; you cannot miss it if you drive into Mittersill from the chalet.
Krimmler waterfalls
One of the highlights of the Hohe Tauern are the Krimmler waterfalls. With a fall height of almost 400 meters, the Krimmler Falls are the largest in Central Europe and the fifth highest in the world. The upper waterfall has a fall height of 140 m, the middle one of 100 m and the lower weather of 140 m. The waterfalls originate from the glacier Krimmler Ache. As a result, the amount of water that falls down greatly varies throughout the year. In June and July, 20,000 m3 per hour flows down, whereas in February this is only 500 m3 per hour. A walking trail of 4 km runs along the waterfalls. From the parking lot you walk up in about one and a half hour. The waterfalls attract 400,000 visitors a year.
Hiking
Around the chalet excellent networks of hiking trails have been created. From the mountain stations of the lifts of Bramberg, Neukirchen and Hollersbach you can experience numerous treks. During the walks you can enjoy the green pastures, grazing cows and goats, and beautiful views over the Hohe Tauern and Kitzbüheler Alpen. Enjoy the numerous mountain lakes, the Alpine landscape and the beautiful nature. In the side valleys there are several themed hiking trails (some specially aimed at children) such as the Smaragdweg in the Habachtal and the Geologielehrweg in the Untersulzbachtal.
Mountain biking & cycling
Around Bramberg is about 800 km of mountain bike trails. Cyclists can also indulge in the valley and the countless climbs of the surrounding mountains. Because the lifts are open for a large part of the summer, many mountain bikers take their bikes upstairs to start their journey from one of the mountain stations. It is possible to cycle to the chalet by mountain bike. Mountain bikes, like e-bikes, can be rented at various locations.
Motorcycling
In this area you can also enjoy motorcycle riding. It is no coincidence that the large-scale motor festival ‘Club of Newchurch’ takes place every year in Neukirchen am Grossvenediger. The upcoming edition will take place from 20 to 27 June 2021. In the chalet you can park some motorbikes in the ‘skiraum’, there is also the option to park the motorbikes in the carport.
Swimming
In the area there are many possibilities for swimming, both in natural water and in swimming pools. Downstairs in Mühlbach there is a public outdoor pool with restaurant. At the swimming pool there is a playground, you can also play beach volleyball. Ideal for a few hours to go with the children, it is less than five minutes’ drive. In Hollersbach there is a nice lake where you can swim. A larger lake can be found in Uttendorf, the Erlebnisbadesee Uttendorf / Weißsee is a nice lake with a big slide, climbing wall, restaurant, etc. Covered swimming pools can be found in Mittersill (Hallenbad Kogler) and in Wald (Kristallbad).
